The Emperor's New Clothes
Do you remember the story of the Emperor's new clothes,
Or has it been snuffed out by Pinnochio's nose?
The Emperor was deceived by the lie of a weaver
Whose ingenious plot was hatched by the great deceiver.
The material he used could not be seen
By those whose wisdom was remarkably keen
The truth, of course, was that there was nothing there
But to admit it is to say you really are bare!
So the Emperor put them on, and strutted the streets
And the procession showed off all the tails and pleats.
Not a one in the crowd admitted the fact
That the garments he wore were really something he lacked
But a child standing by saw things as they were
And called them as he saw them, and caused quite a stir.
"He has nothing on", and it wasn't until then
That the crowd would admit how foolish they'd been.
The lie, you see, was to make people deceived
Into thinking that they're ignorant if they didn't believe
That the facts that they know will intimidate them
If they proclaim them and make people realize where they'd been
It's to make you look foolish if you get rid of your pride
But the truth is, humility has nothing to hide.
The Emperor's new clothes brought out his own shame
By making him more stubborn in his own foolish game.
Because of the honesty of a child in this world
We will come to our senses as lies are unfurled
But the proud and the ignorant in this world will fulfill
The truth that the ignorant will remain ignorant still.
Pride has a way of refusing the truth
Humility has a way of coming from our youth.
But to stop the procession, the Emperor said "never"
So he held himself stiffer than ever.
