Non-technical OurChurch.Com Forums Closing May 31

Hi Folks,

After a lot of thought and discussion, we have decided to close down all of the non-technical OurChurch.Com forums (with the exception of the OCC Fellowship forum) on May 31, 2009.

This was a difficult decision because we dreamed for years about having a vibrant community of forum users discussion ministry, faith, relational, and other issues. But the fact of the matter is that these forums are only frequented by a handful of users. And the discussions have often been argumentative or theological debates. There was just not enough edifying conversation or community to make them worth continuing any longer.

The forums being close include Christian Ministry Exchange, Faith and God, Relationships, In the news..., Original Writing, Spiritual Conversations, Prayer Requests, Humor, Teen Talk.

We understand that those of you who were regulars in these forums will be disappointed by the decision. We hope that you would continue to read and post in the technical forums that will continue.

Very disappointing pdstein, because I had been posting here in the "Original Writing" section for the past 9 years and had much readership. Hope you change your mind and keep atleast this section open. Thanks anyway for being a great forum. God bless.

Dr. Johnson Cherian,

Thanks for your reply. We'll discuss your request to keep the Original Writing forum. I think of all the forums scheduled for closing, that one has the most potential. There's a consistent flow of new posts, they're being read by a fair number of people, and it doesn't get all the arguments. I'll let you know what we decide soon.

Dear OCC management and staff,

I can understand your issues about closing (some) of the forums and I also hope together with Dr. Johnson, that you leave the "original writings" forum open. At least that we as members will have some way of contact.

After further consideration, we've decided to keep the "Original Writing" forum going. There's been quite a bit of good stuff posted in there and it hasn't required a lot of moderation like other forums.

Special thanks to Dr. Johnson Cherian for speaking up and advocating for the "Original Writing" forum.

As in infrequent visited to this forum, I agree that it is sad but true that the forums have been used most often as a place to sow discord and not unity.

There are many other forums online which can be visited by the OCC forum posters to satisfy any perceived need for fellowship. I imagine that those visitors who wish to stay in contact with one another, can start their own forum or forums elsewhere, and P.D. Stein and crew can focus on their core IT business.

To you Mr. Steinbruek, I say you are wise focus on the headaches inherent in the technical aspects of your business and not on the endless difficulties which do go along with constant disputing of doctrine. I understand you have your own children. It is enough of a challenge to raise them in this world, without having to constantly monitor "adult" children arguing here.
